Composition feedback

Besides taking a zillion photos of the water inTahiti! . . . because I could not get over the color . . . I really did try to take photos of other items and work on my composition. Not happy with either of these but would love any feedback that you may have for me. Both are straight out of the camera, no post production or cropping at all . . . yet :-)

  1. Love the flowers.
Statue photo has too many elements.... the eye doesn't know what you were trying to say. The boat is busy and doesn't add anything to the statue shot.

  2. Thank you Jan!
The statue photo feels awkward to me but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thought it might be the diagonal tree on the right . . . but I agree . . . too much going on!

  3. You are right about the tree on the right side...
That and the boat should not be in the shot....
So hard to "see" everything when composing a shot..

  4. I like the flower photo - love the colors! I like the upper-right corner leaves and the flowers. There may be too many greens under the flower - I don't think they add to the photo. Perhaps you can try to crop out some of those. You can also try to crop out both the left and bottom, so the flowers will be at the left-bottom corner. Or you can try to have only the flowers in the photo after cropping.

For the statue photo - I agree with Jan that the photo is too busy. I would get closer to the statue and have just the statue and the ocean, or just the statue and the tree, or maybe even just the statue itself (but then it lost the context).

  5. Ning - I agree with your cropping ideas for the flower. I will give it a try. :-) Thanks!
